Sterling have been VW specialists for some fourteen years and have a national profile. They like to stay involved and one of the most interesting projects carried out was the 'Outrage us' gullwing Beetle. All the body modifications were carried out in the evenings and weekends with over 1,000 hours in total being spent on the labour of love. As well as the obvious changes like the gullwing doors, there are dozens of clever and amusing smaller modifications including various cut out's like the speedo and the indicators that have been recessed into beetle shaped holes. The car was designed as a stable mate to 'Outrage' the funny car which held the world speed record for a Beetle based drag race car. Paintwork features yellow pearlescence over a pink base colour to the rear and voilet pearlescence over a metalic silver base on the front. The two halves are separated by a "torn" effect white stripe, just like big brother. The trick paint theme is carried through to the inside the car and can even be seen running through the 6 point roll cage. Just because it's functional, doesn't mean it can't be pretty! The car was originally purchased for fifty pounds as a "parts doner" car and had been seen at shows with several different paint schemes (a new one each show season) prior to it ending up how it looks today. |
